I really like this shirt! It takes a lot of work winding the bobbins by hand with the elastic thread but I really like how it turned out. I got the white shorts on clearance for $2 and had the fabric in my stash for about 2 or more years now. My dd is a goofball and doesn't take a normal picture anymore. Its all about the wide eyes and funny faces! [:D]

did you use a pattern or tutorial for it? i would love to try doing those--one thing that i did was use a pillowcase. i was making my daughter a pillowcase dress and ended up shirring the top and I love it! I would love to know what you used to make this top

That is my next dress I'm making!!!! I make pillowcase dresses in my sleep and thought the top of the pillowcase dress would look adorable that way! I saw a tutorial many moons ago on how to do this then the other day martha stewart had an episode about it so I just sucked it up and gave it a shot!

Cute... My MIL made a dress like that for my daughter. I want to try making her a couple more.

Out of curiosity, why do you have to wind the elastic by hand? How come you can't do it on the sewing machine?

because the machine will pull the string tight and you want to have barely any tightness with the elastic thread.

just have patience and after every row, check to see how much elastic thread is on your bobbin!
