Things i learned from my experience that i would like to share.

1. Submit your sites to major companies like

google - Add your URL to Google (http://www.google.com/addurl/)

yahoo(always slow in processing but still important) - Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer (https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com)

msn(microsoft still rules the pc world) - Bing URL Submission (http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx)

alexa - Alexa Internet - Update Your Listing (http://www.alexa.com/edit)

2. Never submit under construction/ unfinished websites to seo. Once they blacklist it, it is very difficult to get back to the top

3. See that your home page tells the world what your business is. Keywords are most important.

4. Keep changing the contents in your home page every month, that will attract more search bots, which is a good thing.

5. Not too many pictures in the home page.Balance again with key words!

6. To attract more customers, use mild, warm back ground colors. Black is a big no no.This will not take away the attention from the products!

7.Keep adding discount, coupons, send newsletters, update in facebook, twitter, blogs, myspace etc..

8. Be polite to customers, the more emotions you show, the cheap you will look. Think Customer is always right. Petty things under $5 is better to let it go than asking them to send back the items so you can refund.

9. Try giving away to charities, missions once a month, to make yourself feel better

10. Last but not the least..Your family needs you first. Make a schedule for your work and not for your kids.

Not more than 3 hours a day for your work. Spend time with them..Once everybody climbs up the bed at night, make a cup of coffee and start working but go to bed before 12..

Initial start is always difficult, once everything is set up, just sit back and fill orders!HTH:)

Thanks Vanitha,
Just to share... I've just set up my little shop in facebook just so I cud test the water before I sign up to get a website and the rest going. Firstly I hooked up with the local groups where I target mothers with kids. I managed to 'befriend' almost 90 people just in 3 three days.. Im doing well you think?.. Well I havent got a single order yet. But I do get some nice comments tho... but NO ORDERS!!! Gosh..its so frustrating especially after putting a lot of effort on it. Now Im thinking if Im gona get a website, will that actually gona help to get the ball rolling... Beats me!! I always thought doing business online as SAHM was easy...I guess I hv to keep coming up with promotions, new clippie designs etc.. Anway thanks for sharing the tips. I thought it was great. Thank you for sharing..

Hi everyone I am new here! I tried some of the things and I am still new going on 8 months now. I got my first order for one of Vanitha's Hats! Seems they are more popular than ALL of the other items I sell :)! I do need more traffic and with the way the economy is its difficult to get folks to spend extra money!

Great tips! I especially love the one about scheduling my work and not my kids. I work full time and do this part time and I always wonder if other people have as much trouble balancing work/family/fun (for me that is bow making). I don't want to give up on the fun but I am still struggling to find the time I would like to dedicate to it. Anyway...I'm rambling but I just wanted to say thanks for sharing!! : )
