I just recently decided to go ahead with my wholesale option ShoppePro offered. I haven't messed with it much, just tested it out a little.

I just received a wholesale application from a retail store and have some questions for those of you that also have a wholesale section on your stores.

First: How much do you discount for them? I currently have most everything 20% off. Too much??

Second: Next I have it set up to where there has to be a $200 min. 1st purchase and $100 min. purchase there after. Thoughts on this??

Any additional advice?

I'm not sure if this place will actually order, but I'd like to have things running smoothly if they do happen to.

FORGOT - Do you think it's best to make sure these places sell my products with my cards on them? Or allow them to sell them as "their own?" I'd hate for them to sell them as their own!!!!!!! But I also don't want to turn down a big order!

When I sell wholesale I give 40% off. Of course you still need to make money and not give it away. I price everything so that if I am asked for wholesale I can give 40% off and still make money. I do know that some give 50% and some retailers expect 50%. But of course it all depends on your mark-up.

Keep in mind that you can ask for more for rush orders and custom orders. Say have a % surcharge. Maybe 20%.

In relation to the first order you usually have that higher than sucessive orders. Like $200 for first and $100 for all orders thereafter. I do $100 and $50.

With bowcards I have 2 different ones. For my own sales the card has the website address and for wholesale orders it does not. Any savy buyer who wants to seek you out can and will find you if you have a website or etsy. Think of all the things you buy at the store. It has their logo but not contact details.

I am sure there are others with different ways to do this and hope this is of some help to you.

That is what I was wondering if you sell retail at shows and customers find out you are wholesaling then what?

I don't see this as a problem. To buy from you wholesale they have to meet the minimum spend. That is why the first purchase is usually high. To spend $100 wholesale that would be about $160 retail. Or you can advise them that wholesale is only for brick and mortar stores or uniform teams and shops.

You could always tell them that if they want to spend that much you will give them a one off discount.

In Australia most people who sell wholesale will only do it if you have an ABN (like a business tax number). I am sure in the US there is something similar. So to buy wholesale you have to prove you are a business.
