Charging PayPal fees?

I have been searching for the answer and I am coming up empty. I would like to know what is the right thing to do. Do you charge the customer the Paypal fees if they want to pay with Paypal or is that my responsibility to pay for those?

When I participate in group buys, the host of the group buy charges a paypal fee. But if your selling on etsy or anywhere else you might want to add the fee in the cost of the item or add it to the shipping cost.

I don't charge the customer the paypal fee, I just absorb the cost. I hadn't thought about adding it in to shipping and handling like Jess said, I may consider that.

i have been just eating the fees, i may ad it to shipping, but feel like the customer will think im ripping them off since they will see the postage on the box/envelope. But, they charge a fee on the shipping cost w/ paypal so where do you stop? lol

Thanks ladies. I am so confused about Paypal. I helped a lady out a week ago and sent her 2 little appliques. She sent me payment of $1.54 to cover my cost and the paypal fee. 34 cents went to paypal. So now I just had a lady send me payment and I included $1 to cover the paypal fee. But paypal didnt take any money for a fee. I'm so confused. Anyone know why that happened?

If you send a invoices when the person pay pp get the fee,but if the person send you the money and put personal pp don't take anything......

I have no idea, but today i refunded someone $2 for part of the shipping fee, and paypal took 5 cents of that for a fee... so they charged a fee on the money they already charged a fee on.... grrr...

the other choice purcharse and you will charge the fee here

Just like francisbel mentioned, whether you invoiced or not they can send it as a "gift" and paypal will not charge fees. Maybe they did it this way.

What are the percentage of fees that pp charges? Isn't it different if the person pays using the check option? I wouldn't even know how much to add the price for fees. I have always just absorbed the cost too.

Like some of the others mentioned, I consider the PP fees in my shipping. Shipping from my website is not the exact shipping for items, it includes the mailer/box, PP fees, shipping, ink, etc.

see i have been eating the costs of these things. The mailer packages, tissue paper, all of that. I feel like i am over charging them, or they will think that if i charge over what the box says when they receive it.

on my esty i have debated putting it into the shipping cost as well. Shipping is an estimate and normally they have over paid, but then I throw in an extra clip or something to cover it.

I try to add the paypal fees into the shipping cost. Sometimes I may come out ahead a little, and other times I eat some of it - so I feel like it all pretty much evens out.
