View Full Version : Fabric Scraps for covered buttons?

I've been wanting to try my hand at the covered buttons.

I am almost 100% sure I've seen places that sell small scrap fabric square packs, no more than maybe 6" x 6" each square.

I've searched and searched online, but cannot find exactly what I'm looking for.

I don't sew so I don't have fabric laying around, and it isn't very economical to buy a whole yard of fabric for maybe 2-4 buttons. :(

Any ideas on where to look? I'm in Germany, so I can't just drive to Wal-mart, Target, etc, however, if you have seen them there, I could probably get my MIL to pick some up for me. I will not order online from Joann due to several bad experiences in the past few months.

Thanks in advance. :)

Lots of times Walmart has small pieces for sale from what was left over from the bolt. Just ask.

I had the same problem - NOT a sewer. I found squares of fabric at the fabric store but there were $1.99!! I ended up buying 1/8 of a yard of fabric to get me started of some stuff that was on sale. I'd like to know if there's a place that has scraps as well.

Check on eBay and Etsy. I have seen some for sale there.

Are the covered buttons hard to do?

Easy as long as you have the push tool. All ya gotta do is push.

You can look in fabric stores for what they call fat quarters. A lot of people who quilt purchase these to use. You can also look on ebay for what I think they call charm packs. They are coordinated prints that are big enough to cover a button. I just learned if you do any appliqueing, this is the best way to build up your stash.

As long as I have been sewing, far from seamstress, I have never tried to applique. What is the easiest and best way to jump in on this? My sewing machine has a fantastic satin stitch(zigzag)

It is really easy. Check out this link: Free Shamrock Applique Pattern: St. Patrick's Day Applique Pattern (http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/appshirt/shamrock_applique.html)
This is how I do my applique (except I use a bit of stabilizer for knit shirts).
