Pretty Beaded Things

Does anyone have an idea how these are made? There was a thread on Hip Girls but I can't follow it. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Janine

This is how I do mine (except I use needle and thread through the center instead of wire). http://www.offray.com/65b.html

Thank you - Thank you - Thank you. cheerl
I am usually pretty good at working these things out myself but this one I was a little stumped.
Off to make my spikey bows.

Then what do you attach them to? An aligator clip?

I do both. If you sew a strip of ribbon at the bottom, kinda like you do for a korker, then you can wrap it around your choice of hardware (even a pony-o). Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense! I am going to have to try it.

Thanks for that link. Looks pretty easy too, for those of us who are impaired with some purchased instructions.

I tried it. It looks just like a streamer ponyholder. Is that right?
Barbara Jean

It shouldn't really look like a streamer (in that the ribbons shouldn't "stream/hang"). Here is one that I did (my first one actually). Is this kinda what yours looks like.http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_430xN.29503813.jpg

Spikey bows don't have a center knot, that is part of the problem. Also, don't use 3/8" ribbon for that length/size. Use 7/8" and try shortening the strips a bit. You will have it your second go round... you're so close now.

I used 8 in strips. How long do you make yours? I also used 8 pieces of ribbon. I put the center knot on because you could still see the thread.

The one in the picture, I think I used 6 inches. You have to use a coordinating thread so that it blends.

how many pieces do you use. And then just scrunch them together and sew and they turn out that full?
Barbara Jean

Yep, it will turn out that full. I used 7 or 8 pieces on that one I think.

These are so cute! So do they look better the more ribbons you have? Is that the trick to making them poufier? (is that a word?)

I have made some smaller ones with only about 5 ribbons that came out poofy but I am sure more would be even more poofy. You have to have the right length ribbon.

I bought these instructions from Punky Munky and they are great, it's well worth what you pay to have them in front of you. They have different size charts, the works.
Love them!!!!

Does the wire work just as well as sewing them?

I don't think wire would work at all due to how this particular bow is put together.
