I went to put this clip in my daughter's hair this afternoon and noticed that the ribbon that I lined the clip with had pulled off the alligator clip. It's not the first clip of hers that this has happened to....
what's the deal with the hot glue doing this?

This is one of my issues with the hot glue. I am not sure why it happens, but I do not like it. Mine always pulls off underneath the pinch part on the bottom. I even bought a new glue gun and am using good glue sticks, si I have no clue like I said.

I have had that happen when I used a regular glue gun, but with the high temp it seems to take care of the problem. My grand daughter is rough on her clippies and a few have come apart, but only after she has really roughed them up.

I even thought of maybe using sandpaper to rough up the area that lifts, but not sure. I have even had the silver stuff come off of the clip too. Very weird

I have it happen some with my dd's bows for hers it is mainly because of all of the moisturizing hair product I have to use on her. The grease degrades the glue, imo. But like csrascmom, I have found I have fewer problems using a high temp gun.

So far I've only had it happen to one of the clippies I made. I'm not sure why that one is the only one that did that. Weird. I am using multi-temp glue sticks.

I'm having the same problem too. I use the multi-temp glue sticks too. I'm not sure why this is happening.

Have you guys tried the quick Grip? I made a bunch of clips for my show and spilled some coffee on the,. I put my clips in a lingerie bag today and ran them through the wool cycle of the washing machine. They were fine. I did not dry them as I had already put some gripzies on them, but even they were still in place.

I've had this happen before on some of my clips but not recently. I wonder if it has to do with the weather.

The ones I have had that seperated were from 1 to 1 and 1/2 years ago. Who knows. It will remain a mystery I guess

It has only happend to me a couple of times. I've noticed that then I put hot glue on the opening of the alligator clip as well and the sides, it fairs much better. I don't know if that makes sense.

What I mean is when you put it so that it goes through and glues ribbon to ribbon on the opening and not just the ribbon to the clip. Does it still sound as confusing to ya'll as it does to me, lol???:confused1::confused1:

I've had that happen to me a few times, so I just quit using it. I've been using Aleene's Fast Grab, and it has worked well for me. The only exception has been with more satiny type ribbons, but it has held up very well with grosgrain.

I've used a glue gun for over 25 years. When I was floral/craft designer, my experience was that the glue does not hold up over time when used on metal. When I started in the bow business I tried several methods and I found that fabri-tac works the best for me. Some have complained about the glue showing through the ribbon but I think that just means that too much glue was used.

You could try the E600 glue. This is supposed to stick to metal really well and holds the fabric on tight also. I found mine at Joanns.

I've had it happened when I used high temp glue sticks. If I use multi temp they stick wonderful! I get the cheap ones from Walmart, look at the package, the multitemp says it will stick to metal, the high temp does not.
Yes that was my problem, now i use Magna Tac is a permanent adhesive and really works for me.

I haven't had that happen yet, but my bows aren't that old - being a newbie and all. I have noticed that if I mess up, I can go back later and very easily take the ribbon off the clip when I have used a high-temp glue gun.
